PLACE-BASED CREATIVE SKILLS

The UK creative industries have the potential to support local economic growth and make places more attractive for working and living. From Shetland to Penzance, there are hundreds of micro-clusters of creative businesses. Developing creative skills that are place-based and rooted in specific sub-sectors is critical to the future of such clusters and to enabling people from all backgrounds and communities to thrive in the creative economy.

The Creative Industries Council (CIC), in partnership with the Audience Agency, has launched the Creative Industries Council Place Forum to bring together industry, local and national government, and other participants, to encourage co-operation and information-sharing on place-based creative skills.

The Forum held its first event online on January 18 2024. Below, read about the event and find out more about the CIC’s engagement with place-based initiatives and partners, which is led by the CIC Deputy Industry Co-Chair Francesca Hegyi OBE, the Chief Executive of the Edinburgh International Festival.
