CIC Place Forum Event Transcripts

The third a series of events was recently held to discuss developing creative UK places

Transcripts are available from some speakers at the most recent CIC Place Forum held by the Audience Agency, in partnership with the Creative Industries Council.

The free Zoom event took place on September 26 2024 and was the third in an ongoing series by the Forum. You can read more about the Forum's aims and work.

Topics discussed at the latest event included:

  • Devolution: Unlocking Local Economic Growth
    How can greater powers locally contribute to economic development and breaking down barriers to opportunities?
  • Creative Clusters and Local Growth Plans
    How can local partners ensure the creative sector is recognised within local growth plans? How can local growth plans align with national Industrial Strategy?
  • Innovation and Investment
    How can we convert innovation into commercial success across the country?

The speakers included:

Susannah Storey, Permanent Secretary at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport;

Professor Katy Shaw, Programme Director: AHRC Creative Communities and Director of University Cultural Partnerships at Northumbria University; (transcript)

Iain Hamilton, Head of Creative Industries at Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Co-Founder of XpoNorth; (transcript)

Susan Wills MBE, Assistant Director Arts, Culture & Libraries, Surrey County Council.

The event which included a Q&A, was chaired by Francesca Hegyi OBE, Chief Executive at Edinburgh International Festival and Deputy Industry Co-Chair of the CIC.
