NEWS: London Crafts Week 2019

A five-day celebration of makers - from artisanal ceramicists and artists to perfumers and textile creators - will cement London's place at the centre of the international crafts scene.

London Crafts Week, which runs from 8th -12th May, brings together crafts cultures from across the UK and internationally, offering visitors the opportunities to observe and meet leading UK makers from a range of disciplines as well as from countries including Italy, Korea, Japan, Portugal, Denmark, and Iran.

Taking place in 150 locations across the city, the Week comprises more than 240 events providing access and insight.

In addition to the presence of long-standing London Craft Week-supporting brands dunhill and Purdey, other established brands participating include George Jensen, Bentley, Christian Louboutin, Anya Hindmarch (pictured), Pringle of Scotland, The Conran Shop and Loewe, whilst iconic venues taking part include the Imperial War Museum, the V&A, Fortnum and Mason, and Battersea Power Station.

This year, for the first time, London Craft Week will present its own exhibition. Guest curated by Sarah Myerscough, 'Scorched' will feature scorched wood pieces by contemporary artists and designers.

Other highlights include:

  • The Conran Shop in Chelsea will pay tribute to 100 years of Bauhaus
  • A five-floor exhibition on the 'Future of Craft' at the Bargehouse, bringing together Oxo Tower Wharf, Coin Street, Design-Nation and Future Icons
  • Workshops at Coal Drops Yard in King's Cross on Japanese indigo dyeing techniques by the Japanese artisan/farmer collective, BUAISOU
  • A bespoke perfume exhibition at The Beaumont and a workshop on the aesthetics of scent at the House of St Barnabas

Half of the events are free to attend and half are open house so there is no need to book. Other events need pre-booking at a cost, these events have a link which takes you to each partner’s ticketing site.
